Two Soldiers Killed During Anti-Banditry Operation In Zamafara State


Troops Recover Weapons From Zamfara Bandits

In the ongoing war against bandits operation in Zamfara State, two soldiers of the Nigerian Army have lost their lives.
The troops also captured one of the bandits alive.
Confirming the operation, Maj. Clement Abiade, the Acting Force Information Officer of the ongoing Operation Sharan Daji,  said two soldiers and two members of a vigilance group were also killed in the encounter.
Abiade said eight other soldiers and six other vigilance group members sustained various degrees of gunshot injuries.
According to him, troops also rescued 75 people taken captives by the bandits after destroying 18 of their camps in the state.
He said that the freed captives mostly from local communities in Zamfara, had been debriefed and reunited with their families.
Abiade listed items retrieved from the bandits to include five Fabric National Rifles, four AK Rifles, 10 locally made rifles, one locally fabricated pistol and 40 motorcycles.
He said clearance operations of bandits’ enclaves in Zamfara and Katsina Stateswhich began on January 20 would continue till June

Nigeria Labour Congress Reject New Minimum Wage

The  Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)   has turned down the N27,000 new National Minimum Wage adopted by the  National Council of State  on Tuesday. The General Secretary of the congress,  Dr Peter Ozo-Eson , made the mind of the congress known to the press ) on Tuesday in Abuja. The congress stated that since the Tripartite Committee has submitted its initial report, the council has no power to override the amount initially agreed upon. “It is abysmal of government to be delaying the submission of an Executive Bill to the National Assembly and by wrongfully adopting N27,000 through the council of states,” he said.  An emergency meeting has been called by the congress to deliberate on the deadline the congress gave to the federal government to submit the executive bill on the matter to the legislative. CONDITIONS TO END THE STRIKE #ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has put down conditions that the Federal Government has to meet before the ongoing strike by the union will be called off. According to the union, the ongoing strike action will likely continue except the Federal Government is able to meet these conditions. The union said to end the strike, the Federal Government must urgently release additional N50 billion to the N20 billion released earlier for revitalisation fund and show evidence of mainstreaming the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) into the 2019 budget and evidence of the payment of shortfall in salaries.
